I’m visiting in a retreat. This is a very well run hotel with an excellent staff, most are English speaking and very cheerful. The grounds are inspiring for artists, writers, contemplative activities with the sound of the Urubamba river a labyrinth, a beautiful small cave, a small play area for small children, a couple of waterfalls and streams, and beautiful sculptures. The flowers are so lovely and fragrant. They keep llamas on the grounds herded and tethered in different areas. There’s a large yoga hall, a spa, and a lovely outdoor swimming pool. The food is very good with vegetarian and gluten free options as well as a selection of chicken, beef, fish, alpaca, pork, fresh lettuces from their garden and unique desserts. The buffet is Different every day. Everything is super fresh. Thank you to seniors Renay and Mollo for their great service to make our stay so special. The city of Urubamba is about 11 miles/18 km so this hotel is off the beaten path in quiet surroundings. The internet is consistently very good. Showers are good and the place is quite clean. There’s purified water and tea available 24/7. Electric teakettle in the room, hair blow dryer available, and laundry service. In our room the bath drains slowly. The staff are local not bussed in. The air feels very clean and so fresh. But a lot of people in our group felt suffered several days of altitude sickness. There’s a train station in Urubamba to get to Machu Picchu that takes about 1.5 hours. The station has a coffee shop and foods to buy before leaving so have on hand some small local currency and many places take credit card. There’s a cashier at the Cusco airport we exchanged dollars to Solis but didn’t get small coin which was a mistake. People are glad to take USD though.
